Our friend, class committee member and classmate, has passed away. I am sure he will be missed by many who knew him.
Robert K. Hunter, 81, of Monongahela (Carroll Township), passed away Saturday, April 2, 2022, in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born August 6, 1940, in Charleroi, a son of the late Clarence and Emma Hunter. Following his graduation in 1958 from Monongahela High School, Bob served four years, from 1958-1962, in the U.S. Army. He retired as a well tender for Peoples Natural Gas Co. and on February 2, 2022, Bob was honored and awarded for being the longest member of the Monongahela Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1409, with 60 years of selfless service and dedication to the club. He was also a member of the Mon-Valley Honor Guard and Firing Squad, The Carroll Township American Legion Post 949 and the Ginger Hill Grange 1549. Bob is survived by a stepson, John K. Balchik of Madison, Tenn.; and a stepdaughter, Janet M. Galaski of Monongahela; three stepgrandchildren, Brittany M. (Jerod) Smith of Irwin, Jennifer (Dr. Stuart) Simko of Greenville, S.C., and Christopher Weschler of Ladson, S.C.; four stepgreat-grandchildren, Brielle and Cassidy Smith, and Pippa and Carrington Simko; a brother, Richard B. Hunter and wife Dorothy of Lawrence; and two nephews, Phillip Hunter of Bethel Park and Alexander Hunter in Lawrence.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Micak Hunter, who died August 15, 2014; and a daughter, Kathleen Balchik-Weschler, who died March 13, 2006. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, in the Marshall Marra Funeral Home, 216 Chess Street, Monongahela, 724-258-6767, where services will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday, April 7, with Deacon Al Poroda officiating. Interment will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, with military honors conducted by the Mon-Valley Honor Guard and Firing Squad. Memorial contributions can be made, in Bob’s name, to the Mon-Valley Honor Guard, 438 Alexander Street, Monongahela, PA 15063.
