Monongahela ‘58 graduates enjoy Diamond reunion
Food, fun and fellowship highlighted the three-day 60-year Reunion of Monongahela High School’s graduating Class of 1958.
The Diamond gathering was held Sept. 28-29-30 at the Belle Vernon Hampton Inn in Rostraver Twp. The event was the eleventh reunion for the Class of ’58 since graduation.
Festivities at the Diamond celebration included a pizza party, a banquet buffet and a farewell breakfast, all accentuated by reminiscing of the proverbial “good old days” of high school.
Classmates and their guests were welcomed to the main event — a Saturday afternoon buffet dinner — by Judy Martin Leach. John Allen led the Pledge of Allegiance, Gaynell Sheperd offered a memorial, and Connie Mamie Vlah delivered the blessing.
Dinner was catered by D&D Catering of Arnold City (Washington Twp.).
Following dinner, Richard Hyslop offered a traditional class toast and Thelma Lutes directed the 50/50 drawing
Congratulatory letters to the Class of ’58 from President Donald Trump, Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf, and Monongahela Mayor Bob Kepics were read.
Also part of the banquet program designed by Yerkey was an essay titled “60” and written by classmate Robert Roule.
Fond memories of school days and growing up in Monongahela and surrounding communities also filled the printed program. All were composed by classmates and guided the group on a nostalgic journey down Memory Lane.
The reunion committee (in alphabetical order) comprised Beatrice Bradford, Norma Haywood, Bob Hunter, Judy Leach, Thelma Lutes, Robert Roule, Priscilla Webb
and Dennis Yerkey.
